As part of the wider Rotary family, the Club is able to purchase The Usborne Illustrated Dictionary at a heavily discounted cost. A commonly held view is that “by encouraging the intelligent and self-guided use of dictionaries, learners become more independent”. The project has been underway since 2007 and this past year we passed over 200 copies to children in years 6 at the following primary schools:
Acorns, Long Compton Brailes
Ettington Ilmington
Quinton Shipston
Tredington/Newbold Tysoe
The dictionaries are very well receive by the children and the staff are highly complementary about the donation. One Head of School wrote “our warmest thanks and gratitude for the beautiful dictionaries which you have so kindly given to the school again this year” the dictionaries “are a rite of passage for children in Year 6 and a tradition which the school holds dear…….. We are fortunate to benefit from your kindness and and I hope this will continue in the years to come”.
