Nuneaton, 23rd November 2024 — The Mayor of Nuneaton & Bedworth, Councillor Bill Hancox, along with the Mayoress, Sheila Hancox, are proud to announce the Mayor’s Appeal for 2024–2025, which will focus on raising awareness and funds for the Breast Care Unit at George Eliot Hospital.
An announcement was made during a meeting hosted by the Rotary Club of Nuneaton, where the Mayor and Mayoress shared their personal connection to the cause. In his speech, Councillor Bill Hancox highlighted the importance of the Breast Care Unit, particularly referencing the exceptional care that his wife, Sheila, has received from the unit over the years. Sheila was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and required further surgery in January 2022, both times benefiting from the expert care of the unit's dedicated staff.
The Mayor said:
"There is a long history of breast cancer in Sheila's family. Sheila was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and received excellent care and support. In January 2022, she required further surgery and once again was cared for by the dedicated staff of the Breast Care Unit. At such a challenging time for the NHS and health care, it would be a real privilege to help raise funds for the unit and, at the same time, raise awareness of breast cancer. I hope it would also show all staff of the George Eliot NHS Trust how much we value them."
The Mayor’s Appeal will run throughout 2024–2025, with the goal of generating vital funds to enhance the services of the Breast Care Unit, while also encouraging greater awareness of breast cancer and its impact on individuals and families.
The Rotary Club of Nuneaton is honoured to support the Mayor’s efforts and encourages the local community to join in contributing to this important cause.
