A Winning Night for Rotary – Nuneaton’s Grand National Race Night Raises £750 for Nepal Flood Victims
The evening featured a novel and entertaining racing format, with five jockeys competing in each race by shaking dice to determine which horse would be first past the winning post.
The Rotary Club of Nuneaton enjoyed a fantastic evening of fun, excitement and friendly competition on Friday 23rd October 2026, when it hosted its very own Grand National Race Night at Our Lady of the Angels Church Hall, Coton Road, Nuneaton.
Organised and led by Past President Rotarian David Lloyd, the event attracted over 80 members, friends and guests, all eager to try their luck and enjoy an entertaining evening, while helping to raise funds for victims of the devastating floods in Nepal.
With everyone hoping to win a fortune, there was plenty of anticipation as the races got underway. Unfortunately, nobody left having won a fortune, but that certainly didn't dampen the enthusiasm or enjoyment!
The evening featured a novel and entertaining racing format, with five jockeys competing in each race by shaking dice to determine which horse would be first past the winning post. The winners of the individual races then went head-to-head in a thrilling final to compete for the coveted Nuneaton Rotary Gold Cup.
As the races unfolded, the hall was filled with cheers, laughter and friendly rivalry, with guests enthusiastically supporting their chosen horses and eagerly awaiting the results.
After the third race, guests enjoyed individually boxed refreshments, generously provided by Perfect Platters, which were much appreciated by everyone.
Although the evening provided a splendid social occasion for Rotary members and their friends, its main purpose was to raise money for those affected by the devastating flooding in Nepal. Thanks to the generosity of everyone attending and the support of those involved in organising the event, an impressive £750 was raised towards this important humanitarian cause.
Organiser David Lloyd was delighted with the evening's success and the amount raised. He would like to express his sincere thanks to everyone who helped in any way, both behind the scenes and on the night, as well as to all those who attended and supported the event.
The Grand National Race Night was a wonderful example of how people can come together, enjoy themselves and make a real difference to the lives of others.
A winning night for Rotary, a great evening for everyone involved, and £750 raised to help people in need in Nepal!
