Rotary Club of Nuneaton Welcomes Artist Louise Hancox

The Rotary Club of Nuneaton was delighted to welcome talented artist Louise Hancox as a guest speaker at its meeting on Monday, 26th October 2026.

Louise captivated members and guests with the fascinating story of how she discovered her passion for art quite by chance, following an unconventional career that took her from scientific research into the world of business.

Having studied science at school, Louise went on to complete a PhD in Chemistry and work in research before changing direction in her late twenties to qualify as an accountant. After more than twenty years in the business world, it was only when she retired from corporate life that she discovered her remarkable talent for art.

During her presentation, Louise explained how she gradually developed her distinctive style, creating incredibly lifelike drawings that capture the beauty and character of her subjects.

Working with both coloured pencils and pastels, Louise has developed an impressive artistic portfolio and won awards in both mediums. She explained how pastels produce rich, vibrant colours, while coloured pencils allow her to achieve softer, more subtle effects.

Travel and wildlife provide much of Louise's inspiration. She entertained the audience with stories of her experiences at a game farm in Botswana, describing how her love of travel and the natural world has influenced some of her most iconic artworks. Her ability to translate these experiences into wonderfully realistic images left a lasting impression on those attending.

Now living in a village in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside with her husband and their two dogs, Rudi and Rocco, Louise continues to develop her artistic talent and share her appreciation of the natural world through her work.

The Rotary Club of Nuneaton would like to thank Louise for such a wonderful, engaging and inspiring presentation.

President Sara praised Louise's truly remarkable talent, commenting on the extraordinary realism of her drawings and the inspiration she provides through her journey from a career in science and business to becoming an accomplished artist.

Louise's story was a wonderful reminder that it is never too late to discover a new passion and develop a talent that can bring enjoyment and inspiration to others.
