YOUTH COMPETITION WINNERS

YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHER WINNERS, 2022 - 2023

We are pleased to announce the winners of Rotary Club of Inverurie’s Young Photographer Competition.  The theme this year was “The Beauty of Architecture” and the winner was Rebecca Irbena of Port Elphinstone School, 2nd place was Maria Rejzner with 3rd equal being James Airzee and Lily Davidson all from Port Elphinstone.  The winning photographs are on display at the Gordon Art Exhibition and Showcase in the Garioch Heritage Centre.

YOUNG MUSICIAN WINNERS, 2022 - 2023

We are pleased to announce the winners of this year's Young Musician Competition held in association with Chalmers Mackay Music School.  Winner in the Junior category was Blake Robertson on drumkit and in the Senior category was singer Katie Gibbs.  Congratulations to them for their outstanding performances and to all the other entrants who showed a fantastic depth of young talent in our community.  Sandy Scott presented winners’ trophies and every participant received a certificate.  The audience of around 45 had an evening of great entertainment that was ably compered by Ally Sneddon.

Our thanks go to Emma Gibb and Anne McArthur who did a great job doing the difficult task of judging the competition.  And to Ruby Mackay who played accompaniments where required and her husband Sandy and son Robbie who managed the sound system.  The Garioch Heritage Centre gave us excellent support in setting up the event and serving refreshments.   This was our first music competition since pre-Covid in 2019 and we look forward to it becoming an annual event once more.

WINNERS OF YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHER AND YOUNG ARTIST, 2021 - 2022

Entries into District Competitions

We had a fantastic display of young talent at our meeting on 3rd May when Bill Duncan was able to show the work of and make presentations to our successful Young Photographer and Young Artist winners. Rebecca Irbena from Port Elphinstone Primary School & Nursery and Iona Reynolds of Keith Hall Primary School were winners of our Club competitions earlier this year. Their work then went forward into the District competitions competing against entries from across the whole of North of Scotland from Fife to the Shetland Islands.

Rebecca’s photograph received a “Commended” Young Photographer award in the intermediate age group section, while Iona’s painting won 1st Place the District Young Artist competition junior section. Iona’s work now goes forward to Rotary Great Britain & Ireland’s national competition.

Many congratulations to both girls and we wish Iona the best of luck in the national competition.
