Community, Vocational and Youth Activities

Community Service, Vocational Service and working with young people have been described as the 'shop window' of Rotary. This section covers the work done by Rotarians in the local area.

Community Service, Vocational Service and working with young people has been at the heart of our club since it was chartered in 1953.  Serving Erdington and its surrounding areas, Castle Vale, Kingstanding, Nechells and Great Barr, we are most visible around Christmas time.  Whether it is touring the local community with our sleigh, collecting at local supermarkets or looking after Santa in a local grotto, you will see us a lot throughout December.  Money raised from this and other fundraising events throughout the year goes to support many local organisations such as Square Peg, Headway, Free at last, Erdington Cricket Club, Highbury Theatre, Lily Mae Foundation, and local Scout groups.

We have created a Peace Garden, erected a “peace pole” and placed a bench in the heart of Erdington at Spring Lane Playing fields, in the area where we helped to plant 100’s of saplings as part of an environmental project giving people a chance to take time out, sit and relax.

Youth Activities -Working together with free at last in Nechells we have introduced an Interact club raising the profile of Rotary within the community of Nechells and supporting them with their youth projects such as taking young people on holiday.

On behalf of the District we also organise and run a special needs indoor cricket event annually.
