It was a hot day so the bottles of water and an apple at the Rotary gazebo were very welcome.

we have two social occasions, the first at Crown Green Bowles, taking advantage of the warm weather

Hazel, Head of Fundraising for Papyrus, gave us an in depth talk on the growing problem of Suicide in young people and the work of their growing organisation.

Jane is the Regional Fundraiser for Lymphoma Action which works with people suffering from the many kinds of Lymphoma

Special Charity Dinner October 18th 2018

This dinner was held to raise money for two charities: Papyrus and Combat Stress

Our guest speaker for the occassion was Khumi Burton,  a Deputy High Sheriff for Manchester, who gave an illustrated presentation of her life.

GOLDEN  AWARD

Wilmslow won it's fifth gold in the Britain in BLoom competition.  It was nominated as the best Large Town in the North West of England, and will represent the North West in next years National competition. Our Rotary Club achieved an Outstanding Award for its contribution to the town's success with its Jubilee Rose Garden .

The event in the Memorial Gardens was well  supported by the community. The Rotary wreath was presented by Club President Frank McCarthy.

Honorary  Rotarian and Deanwater Hotel Manager Barry Richards receives a Rotary "thank you" for the excellent service to the club during 2018.

Member Peter Mayall  receives a Saphire Paul Harris Award for  service to the club and the local community.

We were entertained by members and partners to a selection of Christmas sketches.

Treasurer has reported that the total  collected from our various events  over the Christmas period amounted to £4,700. We would like to thank  all those  who contributed to our charity fund.  The amount will be donated shortly to selected local Rotary charities. 

Our President presented a special Rotary Community Award to the staff of the Coach and Four for their kind assistance during our very successful Christmas Teddy Bear Raffle.

SPEAKER MEETING

After a short business meeting, Rotarian Marianne Martyn gave a wonderful and extremely moving illustrated talk about the hardship suffered by her and her family in Germany during WW2.

Once again the Rotary Club is hosting the annual SWIMATHON event in which sponsored eams raise money for their own charity by swimming as many lengths as they can in a given time.

The Club celebrates 50 years active service of member Bernard Davies

In addition, we were able to celebrate a remarkable coincidence.  President Elect Ian Bradley was celebrating another 50 year anniversary - His Birthday!

After the presentation, Bernard entertained us with a selection of amusing memories of earlier years in his Rotary service. His anecdotes were supported by a comprehensive display of his photographs and records from those early years.

Marianne adds her congratulations

Congratulations to the Rotary Youth Speaks team from Wilmslow High School - Martha, Louisa and Bronwen who reached the final of the Senior competition in Nottingham . Although they did not win, they did us proud.  In fact, Louisa was awarded the prize for the best Vote of Thanks.

Beth spoke about the Depaul Organisation, which helps young people who are homeless, vulnerable and disadvantaged..
They are unique, in that they have volunteers who will but up complete strangers for a night in their own homes.

19th May

Rotary were at the annual Beating the Bounds event, which was held to raise money for the East Cheshire Hospice. Rotary ran their raffle.

No meeting, so Marianne organised a Chinese meal for us.

Saturday 29th June 2019

The annual Rotary Scarecrow Festival concludes with a chidren's parade through the town waving their mini scarecrows.

The last event of the Rotary Year is to install our new President. This year we welcome for the fourth time Rotarian Ian Bradley, and pictured below retiring President Frank McCarthy hands over the chain of office.
