Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival

This is the Club's Annual Scarecrow Festival

The 2025 Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival Winner

The Club introduced a Scarecrow Festival to Wilmslow in June 2010. Some photos from this year's entries can be seen below [and previous years are available too (simply click on the Scarecrow Festival pages links to, for example, access the 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2016 report subpages to the right)].

The Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival ran again from Monday 23 June to Sunday 6 July 2025 (extended to Thursday 17 July 2025 to cover the Wilmslow in Bloom judging]. Since it was inaugurated back in 2010, this event has helped to raise many thousands of pounds for charity (particularly for local charities) as well as providing fun for those finding/seeing the scarecrows and/or for those making them. 2025 was no exception to that with at least another £500 being raised. The Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival winner for 2025 was Dorothy (as above or below). Money can still be donated via our Just Giving page  (https://www.justgiving.com/page/wilmslowscarecrowfestivaland the donor can simply add a comment e.g. “I want to support the Rotary scarecrow”).

If anyone would like to get involved with the planning for the 2026 Scarecrow Festival can contact us at wilmslowscarecrowfestival@gmail.com.

Here are scarecrows that were out and about at some point:

Dorothy (Chelsea Flowers) and Bog Off Peat (Protest Lindow Group) [both on Chapel Lane]:

Winston Churchill (NAAFI Break) [at the Memorial Gardens) and Flight Sergeant Straw (Wilmslow ATC) [off Courtney Green]:

Betty the Bee Keeper (Wilmslow Library) and Suzy Bloom (Wilmslow in Bloom) [in the gardens beside Lyme Design and Build near the Leisure Centre car park]:

Bill and Ben [not to scale!] - Both are on Grove Street as Bill can be seen outside Steve the Flower Man and Ben in the Clark's window:

The Phantom Pothole Surveyor [in the Leisure Centre car park], Rosie [at the north end of Grove Street] and a clown [in the Sainsbury's car park]:

Mary Poppins [at Wilmslow train station]:

Mrs Mop [in the Sainsbury's car park]:

And Chattie Hattie, the scarecrow, wanting to chat to someone at the top end of Chapel Lane by The Carter's Arms:

And the latest to arrive on the scene is Annie:

Followed by Bob the Builder on the roof of Lyme Design and Build:

PREVIOUSLY: A couple of scarecrows made an initial appearance in Wilmslow on Saturday 21 June when Mary Poppins could be seen with a clown at the top of Grove Street.

They will return in the next couple of days along with others that are in production. The first scarecrow that we have seen was outside Chelsea Flowers (on Chapel Lane). Dorothy appeared briefly but hopefully by clicking her heels together will return soon ....

Information about entering [for 2025]:

We are looking for lots of people across our local community to get involved (notably to get involved in producing a scarecrow or two to make the event as lively as possible). Is this something you would be willing/able to assist us with?

There is no charge/fee for entering a scarecrow (aside from your time and materials!) although entrants can raise some money for the charity of their choice if they want by encouraging people to support/”sponsor” their scarecrow. This could be for your own charity/organisation or for the Rotary Club (and we donate our funds to various local and/or international charities – we are planning to donate funds from this Scarecrow Festival to local organizations including The Alzheimer's Society and Cancer Research).

You might already have you own fundraising mechanism but, if not, there are a number of ways you could raise funds for us or your own charity/organisation:

(i) Money can be donated via our Just Giving page  (https://www.justgiving.com/page/wilmslowscarecrowfestivaland the donor can simply add a comment e.g. “I want to support the Rotary scarecrow”). You may already have your own Just Giving or similar online fundraising page.

(ii) Having said that, it is relatively easy for an individual to set up their own Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/ and then click on the “Start Fundraising” link at the top. You can then select the charity of their choice as the beneficiary of their fundraising (including the Wilmslow and District Rotary Trust Fund). You can see an example of the latter at https://www.justgiving.com/page/ian-b-scarecrow.

Here is a link to the entry form (to register a scarecrow) or you can contact us at wilmslowscarecrowfestival@gmail.com.

Hopefully you or others you know will want to submit an entry form soon but if you have any questions about any of this in the meantime then please let us know.

If you are needing ideas for how to make a scarecrow then why not go to You Tube and search for "How to make a scarecrow" as there are various videos/examples there.
