Community Service and Youth Activities Committee

This section of the site contains information relating to our Community & Vocational Service and Youth Activities.

Objectives
1) To develop and maintain a working relationship with schools, youth organisations and other social bodies within our local communities of Wilmslow, Handforth and Heald Green. Primarily for the benefit of the YOUNG, the ELDERLY and the DISABLED people within  these communities.
2) Support specified charitable causes.
3) Develop and support fund-raising initiatives.
4) Raise the profile of our Rotary Club by involvement in these community projects and fund raising activities.

COMMUNITY

Established local community links & projects will continue to be supported and maintained and where appropriate developed, these include:

Wilmslow Air Training Corps
Wilmslow Fire Cadets
Friends of Handforth Station
Round Table
The Wilmslow Business Group
The Wilmslow Show
The Rotary Scarecrow Festival
Heald Green Festival
Senior Community Service Awards
Cheshire Reaction
Dean Row Stroke Club
Services for the elderly .i.e. Mary Sunley boat trips etc

On-Going initiatives:-
Further enhancement of the Rotary Float – by adding or replacing existing lighting, recruiting additional drivers to tow the float and utilizing the float not just as a support for our various projects but as a recruitment tool.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES

It is envisaged that a review of the club’s school liaison contacts will provide a more effective and proactive communication with the majority of schools covered by the Wilmslow Educational Partnership and those of Heald Green and Handforth.

School involvement in any of the following projects would be most welcome, these include:-: 

Shoe Boxes
Essay Competition
Youth Speaks
Junior Youth Speaks
Young Chef
Young Designer
Mock job interviews
School Choir Competition

With support from the club liaison scheme it is planned to develop and up-date a detailed log of contacts and interests of each school. Youth Community Service awards will continue and possibly be developed.

Other groups who will receive support include:-

Wilmslow Schools Music Festival – continue with sponsorship and assistance.
Wilmslow Air Training Corps
Wilmslow Fire Cadets

Potential Initiatives
We intend to make donations to Wilmslow Grange Primary School in Handforth (for the equipping of a ‘sensory’ room) and to The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust near Lymm in support of a visit by local school children with learning difficulties or other impairments.

FUNDRAISING

The house-to house, Street and Garden Centre collections will continue in the run up to Christmas.
The Annual Wilmslow Street Collection traditionally held in April will continue at Sainsbury’s and Waitrose superstores. With prior permission from the stores we can display Rotary and commit collectors over a full two day period.
