Wigan Rotary Club has a new President
Rotarian Rosemary Charles was successfully inaugurated as President of Wigan Rotary Club for 2020/2021. The ceremony took place under the auspicious surroundings of a Zoom meeting. Over 30 members joined in to cheer her on and enjoy the words of the outgoing President Mervyn Reeves whom Rosemary, in her inaugural speech, thanked for his excellent though somewhat turbulent year of office when he suffered personal loss and ill health. Then the impact of the Corona - 19 virus, causing the club large scale changes of planning and cancellation of Rotary events.
President Rosemary set out her aims and objectives for the clubs next year encompassing the unusual and unforeseeable circumstances. As a founder member of the Rotary Club of Hope Valley which was chartered in May 1991she is well qualified to take on this important role.
A local girl, born and brought up in Downall Green and then Ashton-in- Makerfield - the daughter of a coal miner. Professionally she was a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and the Institute of Management. She worked in industry and was the Finance Director of a French Perfume Company and then of Sheffield Children’s Hospital NHS Trust. Moving back to Wigan permanently in 2016 and transferring to Wigan Rotary Club.
Her theme will be "Working Together", and she will be forging links with local community organisations developing partnerships to help those most in need and endeavouring to open up all kinds of new ways of operating. She sees this forth coming year as one in which we will rebuild and be enhancing our fellowship within the Club.
She congratulated the Club on what they had achieved this past year in raising and donating around £15,000 recently to groups in the borough who needed funds to help the most disadvantaged due to the virus.
