Wigan Rotary sponsored Junior Speaks competition.
Wigan Rotary Club were delighted to welcome five young people and their two teachers to their Thursday Rotary lunch at the Owls in Standish.
For the last twelve years Wigan Rotary members have sponsored and supported Junior Speaks for primary schools in the Wigan area.
This year’s winners were students from St Wilfred’s Primary school in Standish. The tradition is to invite the team to perform their talk to all the Rotarians and guests who were present. After a lovely meal with lots of chats, laughter and stories it was time for the five youngsters to take the top table and give their talk about, “Gender equality in Sport”. A confident and well thought through speech that showed Rotarians that the future is still in safe hands!
The standards of this competition amazes every year and head judge Dianne Hawkins from the Bolton Speaker’s Club, who was also invited to the Owls, remarked that she was delighted and encouraged by the standards of public speaking that these young students had achieved.
