Wigan Rotary Club believe that being able to speak confidently is a very useful life skill; Junior Speaks aims to provide a forum to develop and challenge young people.

In 2010, the club held the third annual Junior Speaks Competition, for Year 6 Primary School pupils in the Wigan area.
Teams of three pupils take on the roles of Chairperson, Speaker and Proposer of a Vote of Thanks.
Topics were chosen by the pupils and staff- politics and religion were excluded. In preparation, whole classes have been involved with 1 minute presentations, developing the presentation abilities of all.
14 teams were entered from 10 schools in the borough. The teams set a very high standard covering a wide range of topics, such as Technology, SATS, Danger to animals, Happiness and Camping.
The winning team was Standish St. Wilfrid's C of E Primary School with the topic of .
This year, we are delighted to welcome 18 teams from 14 schools.
The arrangements are as follows.
1st Round | 4th October 09:00-12:00, Holy Family Aspull |
2nd Round | 7th October 09:00-12:00, Westfield |
3rd Round | 11th October 09:00-12:00, Aspull C of E |
Final | 13th October 09:00-12:00, Woodfield |
Two teams from each event will progress to the final, which will be held on Wednesday 13th Ocotober at Woodfield Primary School.

Rotarian Mel Finch reported that the 2009 contest had been a huge success with the winning team having performed at Rotary Club meeting on November 5th. They repeated their presentation at an Evening of Poems, Prose and Drama organised by Wigan's Cultural Partnership on Wednesday November 25th at Wigan Cricket Club.
