Lunch time meeting held on 24th October 2013
.
On Thursday 24th October President Tracy Thomson welcomed 27 Rotarians, plus guest Josephine Strath, to the lunchtime meeting at Gilvenbank Hotel. 6 apologies were received . Grace was said by Rube Fernando.
Unfortunately the scheduled speaker had been obliged to cancel at the last minute, so the members enjoyed a lunchtime of fellowship.
However President Tracy took the opportunity to remind members of the forthcoming World Polio Day and read out a recent update of the current situation regarding Rotary International`s campaign against the disease worldwide
There were several announcements about club activities. The Shoe Box project is making good progress. Members decided that the club should continue to promote this appeal in the Kingdom Centre as hitherto agreed with the management and that a club sponsored Shelter Box appeal for Syria in the centre would not go ahead ,since Rotary GB&I had sent Shelter Boxes immediately to those affected by the crisis.
Two further inter-club gavel matches will take place on 13th and 27th November.
The ceilidh planned for 15th November has been cancelled due to lack of support.
President Tracy announced that she has been granted leave of absence from work until the end of June, so she can concentrate all her energies on promoting the good work of Rotary.
Next week the speaker will be Avril Dullea who is an Asda Community worker. The reception team will comprise Arlene kidd, Ian Hastie and Iain Haywood. Hamish Rothnie will give the VOT.
