Valentine’s Lunch
The Valentine's lunch at the Market Tavern on 14th February was attended by 11 Rotarians and 5 wives. After a three-course meal coffee was served with heart-shaped shortbread biscuits, kindly baked by Margaret Blackwell.
President Stuart Blackwell talked about St Valentine (there were 11 of them) and the miracles he was credited with before presenting the ladies with a red rose. Adrian Ramsden, with full dramatic effect, recited Byron's poem "So We'll Go No More a Roving".
It was thought that members would be spared the President's humour on this occasion but before the close of the meeting he proposed that the club name should be changed from the Rotary Club of Sandbach to the Romeo Club of Sandbach (Rich Old Men Eating Out). To stifle the groans, the raffle was drawn and the final toast proposed before the gathering came to an end.
