Eighteen year-old student Peter Dunston has been honoured by Sale Rotary Club for the strength and determination with which he coped with personal tragedy.
The first of this year's three annual Youth Merit awards was presented at Sale Grammar School by Bob Richardson, Chairman of Sale Rotary's Youth Activities committee.
When Peter lost both parents to cancer, within two years, "it would have been enough to disrupt any child starting a new senior school," says Bob. "But Peter fought back in a way that teachers have admired for the past six years. His positive attitude took him through his GCSEs with high grades - but these merit awards are not for academic achievement. This is for the strength of his character and the person he has become."
Nominations for Sale Rotary Club's Youth Merit awards are made by staff at local schools. The two remaining awards will be presented later this year at Jeff Joseph and Ashton-on Mersey schools.more In 2013 Sale Rotary Club launched a new community award, named after the late Tom Morris, a club stalwart and former president
