Maggie’s Highlands and The ARCHIE Foundation each received £7,500, the proceeds of “An Audience with Donnie Munro”. The event took place the evening before the European Pipe Band Championships and saw individuals and companies generously supporting the event through ticket sales, donations and an auction.

Maggie’s Highlands supports people with cancer and their loved ones while The ARCHIE Foundation supports sick children and their families.

Organiser Carlo Miele said: “We are delighted to have run another successful event. The money raised is a huge boost to the charities, and the guests have come away with a great impression of the generosity of spirit of the town. Donnie Munro himself has praised the event and was delighted to be Piping at Forres chieftan.”

The event is one of a number of fund raising initiatives by Rotary Forres, but is one of the largest in recent years.

The cheques were received by Andrew Benjamin from Maggie’s and Laura Macintosh from ARCHIE who visited the town to pass on their thanks to the organisers and to the Rotary Club.

Rotary Forres president David Sim praised the efforts: “A small team from the club pulled this project together and deserve fulsome praise for their efforts. A huge amount of work went into planning and organising the event, and overcoming a number of challenges along the way. The huge contribution this money will make to the two charities is testimony to the kind of change that our club members can make, putting service to the community above themselves.”
