Across the known world the first Rotary Club meeting of July signals the commencement of a new year when Presidential medals are exchanged, congratulations and thanks issued, with sighs of relief held back by fellow members who have once again avoided a leadership role.
It's the second time around for new President David Halford; he last sampled high office nine years ago. In his acceptance speech he first thanked club members for another opportunity to lead the club. He then placed on record his personal thanks to now Past President Neil for a most enjoyable year, with many memorable highlights, filled with true Rotary fellowship. The introduction of luncheon Council meetings had proved a great success involving ALL members in planning and decision making.
Last year commenced without the benefit of either President Elect or Vice President, this was rectified. It took many weeks to twist my arm enough to beat me into submission. Neil finally clinched it when he said, "The club needs someone with a vibrant personality - used to working under pressure - brimming over with enthusiasm." How could I refuse?
With your help I promise a purposeful, meaningful year, full of surprises to us all.
David then invited Past President Derek Berryman to receive his President Elect medal. Past President Robert was on holiday, on his return he will become Vice President.
