In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, high blood pressure is a contributing factor in around half the strokes recorded. Rotary International in partnership with our local Stroke Association teams, and indepedently, during 2016 took over 23,000 blood pressures.
Over 6,000 of nthose tested were advised to make G P appointments to discuss their results. For every 10 people diagnosed with high blood pressure readings, 7 remain undiagnosed, in England alone this equates to 5.5 million.
Each year on this special day we reach those at highest risk.
Along with our friends and fellow Rotarians from Crompton & Royton, we set up a stall on the lowest floor of The Spindels, our local shopping Mall. It is a great location amongst the local people.
A stroke is a brain attack, it happens when the blood supply to part of your brain is cut off. Blood carries essential nutrients and oxygen to your brain, without this your brain cells can be damaged and die.
