Members to meet vote on proposals from service teams and deal with other matters.
No buffet but members will pay £2 towards room hire.


 

Notes from Business Meeting and AGM held at Jaydees 26th May 2026

Present: David Smith, Rebecca Gallagher, Harry Steven, Rob Smyth, Ray Bointon, Ray Edwardson, Barry Curran, Stuart Ainscough, Ian Parr, John Shaw, John Kilshaw, Len Rainford, Alan Robinson, Ian Boden, Brian Woodward, Geoff Shaw, Derek Hirst and Les Clancy.

Apologies: Mike Eaves, Paul Mulvenna, John Morse, Phil Round, Vivienne Clancy, Steve Owen, and Les Greenall.

Welfare: Les Greenall has been discharged from the hospital and recovering at home.

Programme:

1st June Lunch at Mercure speaker Marie Adams, Principal of Hope Academy,

9th June Evening Meeting at Jaydees, speakers John Housley and Paul Hewitt Northwest Miners Heritage Association.

Week commencing 15th June. Team Meetings to prepare the programme for 2026/27 for discussion at the Club Assembly.

23rd Business Meeting and Club Assembly, at Jaydees.

Week commencing 29th a possible social.

No new invitations for speakers are to be issued until those speakers in the pipeline have been given suitable dates.

Proposals:It was proposed by Alan Robinson and seconded by Ian Parr that a donation be made to NADOS. This is to support its Nippers’ production of Sister Act. The motion was carried unanimously.

Barry Curran proposed and Len Rainford seconded that a sum be donated to the Friends of Lyme Wood towards the cost of a new roof at its main cabin. The motion was carried with one abstention.

Youth Services: The team will reconsider the date for the John Vardy Award presentation, as the second Tuesday in September 2026 is too close to the start of the new term for some schools.

John Shaw had a request from The District School, which wished to nominate twins for the Young Achiever Awards. There was no objection to two awards being made in these circumstances.

Les Clancy has received a request for the Club to sponsor the district final for Youth Speaks. It is proposed to hold the event at Hope Academy on Monday 1st March 2027. The Club will receive £600.00 towards the costs for the event. It was agreed for the Club to organise this event.

Forthcoming Events:

Litter Pick at Lyme Wood Park Saturday 27th June.

Race for Life at Haydock Park Racecourse Sunday 28th June.

Venues: A revised template will be issued for members to consider alternative meeting places.

 

 

Annual General Meeting

The following officers were nominated:

President, until 31st December 2026, David Smith

Vice President Rebecca Gallagher, from 1st January 2027 until 31st July 2028.

Vice President from 1st January 2027 – Vacant

Secretary Les Clancy

Treasurer John Graves

These officers were elected en bloc.

 

Committee Chairs:

Executive- Phil Round

Youth Services- Ray Edwardson

Community Services - Ian Parr

International-Alan Pomfret.

These proposals were carried, en bloc.

Members will be circulated requesting that they give their preferred committees in first, second and third order. The purpose is to ensure that each committee comprises similar numbers of members.

With no further business to discuss, the meeting closed at 8.30 pm.

Over the Rotary year your generous donations have been used to support a diverse range of causes. A total of £20,764 was donated with a further £2,600 distributed to the community groups that helped us with our float collections.
