Notes from the Business Meeting 28 April 2026

Present: David Smith, Rebecca Gallagher. Ian Boden, Steve Owen, Les Greenall. Ian Parr. Ken Smith, Ray Bointon, John Kilshaw, Les Clancy, Derek Hirst, Stuart Ainscough, John Graves, Paul Mulvenna, John Morse, Alan Robinson, Phil Round, Alan Pomfret and Ray Edwardson

President David welcomed six observers who are hopefully prospective new members.

Community Service:

Ian Parr appealed for any gardening tools which could be donated for use at the community garden.

Andrew Stockton had advised the Club that the containers needed to be removed from the Viaduct Club by the end of May.

Community Centre Summer Fair 20th June 12noon to 4pm. The Club should be encouraged to attend.

Town Show 1st August. Tombola prizes are required.

High Street Hive is having a scarecrow event on 25th July, any member is welcome to participate. Ian Parr suggested that a representative from our club should attend the Hive’s meeting. This will be considered by the Executive Team. The High Street Christmas Market will be held on Sunday 29th November. The Hive is launching a newsletter and the Club may like to place an advertisement in the document.

Donations:

It was proposed by Ken Smith and seconded by John Morse that a donation be made for two years to Newton Football Club. Motion carried

Domestic Abuse WA12 had its recycling unit damaged and were seeking a replacement. David stated that the proceeds from the Mexican Evening could be passed over to Domestic Abuse.Motion carried.

Young Citizens travel expenses. It was proposed by Phil Round and seconded by Les Clancy that we support Daniel Monaghan’s mother to cover the travelling costs to the awards ceremony. The proposition was carried.

Rotary Foundation: It was proposed by Derek Hirst and seconded by Ian Parr that a donation be made for our annual contribution. The motion was carried.

All the motions were carried with no abstentions and no objections.

Safeguarding Policy and Compliance Statement 2026/27. These documents had been circulated to members. The members formally agreed to adopt the contents of these documents.

Venues: Members are requested to fill in the template that they have been sent so the club can consider future meeting venues.Consullation will close on May 12.
