Notes from the Business Meeting 24th February 2026

Present: David Smith, Rebecca Gallagher. Ian Boden, Steve Owen, Les Greenall. Ian Parr. Len Rainford, Ken Smith, Mike Eaves, Ray Bointon, Ray Edwardson, John Shaw, Harry Steven, John Kilshaw, Richard York, Les Clancy, Derek Hirst, Stuart Ainscough, John Graves, Barry Curran, Paul Mulvenna, Alan Pomfret, John Morse, and Alan Robinson.

Apologies: Vivienne Clancy, Phil Round, Claire Chapman and Geoff Shaw.

Donations:

A donation to Christie NHS Founation Trust,, Manchester, for research into Acute Myeloid Leukemia, in memory of Graham Knowles, was proposed by David Smith and seconded by Ian Parr. Carried unanimously.

A donation to British Heart Foundation, following Lesley Parr’s 100-mile walk. Proposed by Les Clancy and seconded by John Kilshaw. Carried unanimously.

Requests for fundraising:

A donation to Lowton. Golborne and Newton Choir. Proposed by Len Rainford and seconded by John Shaw. Carried with one abstention.

A donation to Newton & Earlestown Community Group for seeding memorial meadow in Mesnes Park. Proposed  by John Morse and seconded by Ray Edwardson. Carried unanimously.

A proposal to Newton In Bloom to arrange flower beds on the High Street. Proposed by Ken Smith and seconded by John Morse. Carried unanimously.

A proposal to Sea Cadets  for Easter Eggs.  Proposed by John Morse and seconded by John Shaw. Carried with one against and one abstention.
