Notes from the Business Meeting 25/11/25

24 members attended.

Present: David Smith(Chair), Ken Smith, Mike Eaves, Ian Parr , John Murray, Richard York, Ray Edwardson, Ray Bointon, Les Greenall, John Shaw, Barry Curran, Paul Mulvenna, John Graves, Stuart Ainscough, Ian Bowden, Len Rainford, Alan Pomfret, Derek Hirst, Harry Steven, Steve Owen, Alan Robinson, John Morse, Clare Chapman and Geoffrey Shaw. (24 attending)

1 The audited accounts for the last Rotary Year were agreed as correct- unanimously.

2 The officers for the next Rotary Year were agreed unanimously and are Rebecca Gallagher (President), Les Clancy (Secretary) and John Graves (Treasurer)

3.The situation with the storage containers at the Viaduct was discussed. The outcome of this discussion was that the contents will be reviewed and going forward we will only have one container, which will be repositioned elsewhere. The empty container will be given to the cricket club. The donation in lieu of storage to the viaduct club will be reviewed in due course.

4 A donation  to the Jamaican Disaster Aid appeal was proposed by Stuart Ainscough and seconded by Ian Bowden For:23 Abstentions:2

5 The club unanimously agreed to support a letter from the Environmental Committee highlighting environmental issues with the new proposed rail freight development in Newton-le-Willows

6 A donation to Newton Community Centre for Staff Health and Safety Training was proposed by Alan Robinson and seconded by Ian Parr. Passed unanimously.

7 A Proposal towards a Community Garden at the Newton Conservative Club. Proposed by Derek Hirst and seconded by Ken Smith. Passed unanimously.

8 The Christmas float was discussed and final rotas will be sent to members later this week. Members were strenuously reminded that children and members of the public must not climb on the float. A reminder was also given to members to read the Health and Safety briefing document sent out last week.
