Notes from Business Meeting 26th August 2025

19 members attended the meeting. 

President Dave Smith, Derek Hirst, Geoff Shaw, Stuart Ainscough, Barry Curran, Les Greenall, Ken Smith, Ian Boden, Mike Eaves, Alan Pomfret, Ray Bointon, John Morse, John Murray, Claire Chapman, Richard York, John Shaw, Len Rainford, Phil Round and Les Clancy.

Welfare Matters: President David reported that his wife Janet had been admitted to Warrington Hospital.

Geoff Shaw gave a positive update on Ian Parr’s condition, and he will forward messages from Lesley, as they arrive.

Ray Edwardson had visited Bob Thompson, and Ian Bowden had been to see Austin Polding.

Community Services: It was proposed by Ken Smith and seconded by Derek Hirst that the Club donates to Starlites Dance Group, towards new dresses. The motion was carried unanimously. John Morse suggested that when the presentation was made, we should seek a photo opportunity

Environment: To celebrate World Mangrove Day, It was proposed by Les Clancy and seconded by John Morse , that the Club donates to Treekly in order to purchase 500 mangrove trees, in Kenya. This motion was carried unanimously.

Executive: As Charter Night is to be held on Wednesday 12th November, it was agreed, by a show of hands, to cancel our planned evening meeting on 11th November.

International: Alan Pomfret proposed, and Ray Bointon seconded that the Club donate to Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate -Smile Train. This proposal was passed unanimously.

Youth Services: Youth Services and International will look into holding another Million Meal Miracle.

It was proposed by Les Clancy and seconded by Len Rainford that the Club provides funding towards the food ingredients, to encourage more students to participate in the Young Chef Competition. The motion was  approved unanimously.

'What We Do' Main Pages:

This is a new group formed during the last Rotary year.23/24 Its remit is to look at how we move the club forward and recruit a more diverse membership

Providing Rotary Service to International Communities. The following programme has been agreed at club assembly.

In the Rotary year 24/25 we have distributed £21,335 and supported 34 local and UK charities and 13 International projects.
