Our club has been in involved in a collaborative venture with Disaster Aid and the Rotary Clubs in Lebanon to provide disaster relief for affected areas.
The recent war in Lebanon has left a devastating impact on the country, causing extensive destruction to land, buildings, infrastructure, the environment, and human lives. In response to this crisis, the Rotary Club of Lebanon ECO collaborated with Disaster Aid UK & Ireland, the Rotary Club of Newton-le-Willows, and the Rotary Club of LA Cedars to provide disaster relief to affected areas in Lebanon.
The generous donations from these organizations amounted to $2,500 from Disaster Aid UK & Ireland, $300 from the Rotary Club of Newton-le-Willows, and $1,000 from the Rotary Club of LA Cedars. This support led to the distribution of essential aid: 500 lunch boxes and 500 reusable bottles. The distribution focused on two schools: 255 sets were provided to Riyak Second Public School, and 245 sets were given to Moualaka Intermediary Mixed Public School.
In addition to the physical aid, the Rotary Club of Lebanon ECO conducted an environmental awareness session for students living in the devastated area.
This session aimed to teach the young people best practices for leading a sustainable and environmentally conscious lifestyle, despite the challenges they face in the aftermath of the disaster.
One of many challenges people dealt with during the war was proper waste management and reduction. Hence, as environmental activists, we shared our knowledge on that topic.
This initiative highlights the vital role of community support in times of crisis and the importance of education in fostering a sustainable future, even in the most difficult circumstances.
The heartfelt joy and relief experienced during the reception of the donations brought much-needed hope to those in need. For many students who had lost their homes, either partially or completely, the aid brought a sense of comfort and support.
The smiles on their faces were a powerful reminder of the positive impact these donations had on their lives.
A special thank you goes to Disaster Aid UK & Ireland, the Rotary Club of Newton-le-Willows, the Rotary Club of LA Cedars, and the Rotary Club of Lebanon ECO for their generosity and commitment to alleviating the suffering of those affected by the crisis. Their efforts have truly made a difference in the lives of many, and their support will continue to be a source of relief and hope for the community.
