EVENING BUSINESS MEETING

Members will meet to vote on proposals from committees and any other matters. Buffet from 6.45pm.


 

Key Points from the Business Meeting 28/01/25

Present- Ray Edwardson (Chair) John Murray, Ray Bointon, Les Clancy, Ken Smith, Ian Parr, Les Greenall, Alan Robinson, Steve Owen, John Kilshaw, Alan Pomfret, Phil Round, Derek Hirst, Geoff Fisher, Barry Curran, Stuart Ainscough, David Smith, Craig Roberts, John Shaw, Derek Hirst and Geoff Shaw.(21 in attendance)

1. Ken Smith proposed a donation to High Street in Bloom to fill the Rotary Plantar in Spring and Summer 2025 this was seconded by John Murray. For 21: Non Against.

2. Derek Hirst proposed a donation to Lyme and Wood for tools for the disability Gardening Club this was seconded byGeoff Fisher. For 21 : Non Against

3. Alan Pomfret proposed that we give 1 John Vardy award  to a pupil from each of the 5 local schools (ie 5 awards in total) next September this was seconded by Geoff Fisher. For 21 :Non Against

4. Les Clancy proposed a donation to Winstanley College to help support the forthcoming trip to Poland this was seconded by John Kilshaw. 15 For : 4 Against : 2 Abstentions       

5.There was a discussion about support for a forthcoming trip to Lourdes. The Chaplain organising the event is attending the club to speak, the level of support will be considered after this later in the Spring.

6. Meeting venues were robustly discussed, the main points of this discussion were:

    1) David Smith will explore the possibility of using the Pied Bull for lunch time meetings.

     2) Ian Parr stated that the improvements at Newton Sports Club and the provision of food may make it a suitable venue for the Business Meeting and other events.

     3) there have been several changes at the Golf Club since the New Year. There is now a new chef and Barry Curran is liaising with Lyndsey about new improved and varied food options…this will be kept under review.

     4) Geoff Shaw stated that 3 years ago he and John Graves had visited all the local venues and at that time non of them matched the Golf Club for lunch when considering price, space and car parking.

    5) Alan Pomfret made the point that Jaydees was an excellent venue for the Business Meeting.

     6) Derek Hirst made the comment as to the requirement of food at the Business meeting.7) The discussion will no doubt need to be continued at the next Business Meeting
