AREA 7 (Wigan) MEETING

Representatives from the clubs making up the Wigan Cluster will meet to share information.
VENUE: Tesco Community Room, Leigh.


Rotary Districts are dived up into areas. Within the areas will be a number of clubs, who will have an Assistant Governor. Our club is in Rotary district 1285 which covers NW England and the Isle of Man. Within our district then are anumber of areas. We are in area 7 (Wigan) along with six other clubs. We have agreed to meet roughly every six weeks to share information, good practice and Rotary values. We will publish our notes from each meeting and youcan see the range of activities the clubs are involved in.

Club round up
RC Wigan:. Monica reported that the club held its club assembly on 22 June and presented its plans for the coming year. International and Community projects will be supported with continued support for Wigan and Leigh hospice and an International project in Nigeria. The club will present a cheque for £10,000 to Wigan Council for a path  at Haigh Hall to be called Rotary Way to mark the clubs centenary year. The club continues to support the Ukrainian project and have also been involved in many Wigan community events
RC Astley: Tim reported that the club held its assembly on 27 June. It continues to work on its objectives. Its three International projects will be Mary’s Meals, Global Sight Solutions and Water Aid. The club will continue to work on three specific community projects: School Eco greenhouses, a community orchard and they are sponsoring two candidates to attend a RYLA event. They are involved in producing a water safety awareness film. This will be released shortly.
RC Leigh: Barrie reported that club assembly was held on 26 June. He was pleased to report that Jansa were seeing benefits from our water and sanitation project. He reported that the club will run a Dragon’s Den in September. The President’s charity will be MANLEIGH. The club will continue its current activities in the community and will sponsor two youngsters on RYLA.The club has put out a circular “Calling all Young People” to seek help with Community projects whilst at the same time developing the skills and competencies of young people.
RC Newton le Willows: Craig reported that the club held its assembly on 4 July. The club had hosted the District Young Chef competition final and held its Young Achievers presentations at 18 primary and special needs schools.. It will be taking its coconut shy to a couple of community events including the Newton Town show in August. It has a planned visit to Aquabox and is planning a Charter night “lite” for November 11. The club Development Group is meeting regularly and looking at Membership and Public Images issues.
Newton Jubilee: Keith reported that the club had held its assembly on 27 June. The club had recruited 6 new members.They had attended Croft Carnival and would be present at Winwick. They are looking at organising an Inter club sports competition. In the coming year they would support End polio Now, the Epiphany Trust, Youth Speaks and the Ukrainian Hub. They are looking for a district grant to support a project in Thailand.
RC Tylesley with Atherton and RC Golborne: No report.


B- District Matters

Edwin reported that the District Council meeting and President’s handover had been held on 29 June at Novotel Hotel, Worsley. District Conference was now confirmed for Llandudno on 27 - 28 April 2024., Training for Secretaries and Treasurers would take place by zoom on 3 August at 7.00pm.

A short discussion was held and clubs were asked how much use was being made of the Learning Center and Rotary Central. This will be discussed further at our next meeting.

AOB
The date of the scheduled meeting of 23 November clashes with a District Council Meeting  so it has been agreed to reschedule our cluster meeting to 16 November.
The question whether we should consider another cluster project was bought up. This will be discussed at the next meeting.
