Tue, Oct 5th 2021 at 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

LUNCH MEETING
SPEAKER: GWYNETH MILLARD, GLOBAL SIGHT SOLUTIONS
VENUE: HPGC

Today's speaker was Gwyneth Millard, RC Wigan and Assistant Governor (D1285)

Gwyneth gave a talk on Global Sight Solution, a charity founded in the1990's by Dr Sam Das, MBE, former eye surgeon and opthalmic consultant at Guildford's Royal Surrey Hospital. The ambition is to provide 1,000,000 free cataract operations to patients in the indian sub continent, Africa and other economically emerging areas who are too poor to afford the cost of treatment themselves.

The charity is working with Rotary Clubs and their Districts in the developing world to establish eye hospitals to become financially free standing and sustainable. To date the charity has enabled over 50 eye hospitals to provide in excess of 100,000 cataract operations each year.
