Nantwich, Saturday November 21st, 2008: The Rotary Club of Nantwich today awarded prizes for their Autumn 2009 Primary Schools' Art Competition at the Nantwich Museum.
The competition was arranged by the Rotary Club of Nantwich who wished to extend their activities and foster links with local primary schools, all of whom were invited to participate.
No specific topic was set for the competition but A3 size or similar was identified as the ideal size for entries. The competition was judged by local artist Estella Scholes: "I was delighted by the invitation from Nantwich Rotary to judge their Schools Art Competition. There were many more entries this year, and the overall standard of presentation was evidence of an enthusiastic commitment to art in some of the local primary schools. The colourful work ranged from highly individual pieces to fascinating examples from class projects. It was difficult to select the winners from this visual feast."
Said organising Rotarian and local architect Martin Greenwood: "Over 150 entries were received from eight local primary schools and a selection of the entries is now on display in the museum. The standard of entries was very high and, in some instances, quite exceptional, and due to the high quality of the entries received it was decided to award seven prizes."
From the shortlist, the following seven entries were chosen to receive prizes which were presented by the President of the Rotary Club of Nantwich, Philip Taylor:
Due to the high quality of work submitted, two overall winners were selected:
Georgia Ridout, Weaver Primary School
David Brindley, Bridgemere Primary School
Two 2nd places were awarded as follows:
Oliver Whitlow, Sound Primary School
Ellen Wynne, Wrenbury Primary School
Joint 3rd prizes
Max Lindsey, Pear Tree School
Clementine Kerwin, Pear Tree School
Jason Morgan Parker, Millfields Primary School
Said President Philip Taylor: "In addition, the Rotary Club of Nantwich is presenting cheques to Bridgemere Primary and Weaver Primary Schools as the schools from whom the winners have emerged.
We hope that everyone has enjoyed entering the competition and special thanks must go to the schools that entered: Acton, Sound, Wrenbury, Pear Tree, Millfields, Bridgemere, Willaston and Weaver. We appreciate the effort that the staff and pupils at the schools have put into their work.
Special thanks also to Ann Wheeler and her colleagues at Nantwich Museum for hosting the Exhibition and to Estella Scholes for the enjoyable but somewhat difficult task of selecting the works you see on display today."
