Youth Achievement Award Recipient wins Greater Manchester XC

Congratulations to Horwich RMI Harriers' Isaac Battye who on December 13th won the prestigious Senior Men's Race at the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships. Isaac who is now 20 or 21 has been a recipient  of numerous Rotary Club of Horwich Youth Achievement Awards in his younger days.

Youth Achievement Awards 2025

The 2025 Awards again attracted a very high level of quality applications. It had been planned to add to the higher and standard awards, an award for outstanding achievement in honour of Phil Gibbs, giving £500 from the fund bequeathed in his estate to Horwich Rotary. However, such was the standard of three applicants who were all achieving at world level, that it was decided to increase the overall award to £1200 split between those three recipients: Amelia Crompton (Waterpolo), Blaize Tingle (Wrestiling) and Ella Leadbeater-Kelleher (Irish Dance).

A further 16 awards of £200 were made for Higher Achievement across disciplines of Motocross, Golf, Athletics, Music (Tenor Horn, Singing), Trampolining, Ballet, Wrestling, Swimming, Football and Dance.

15 Achievement Awards of £100 were made across disciplines of Music (one general, one specifically Piano), Triathlon, Diving, Squash, Tennis, Dance, Rugby Union, Football, Athletics, Ballet & Swimming.

These awards help these youngsters to progress even further in their chosen sport or form of art, music, dance, etc. So a total of £5900 was awarded, made possible by the generosity of the people of Horwich and Blackrod who donate or sponsor the Beer Festival and Christmas Collections. Applications for the 2026 Awards will open on Sept 1st, 2026.

The Presentation Night was held at Chorley New Road Primary Academy on November 26th. There is also a video on the Horwich Rotary YouTube Channel.
