Funding generators for Ukraine
In 2023 Horwich Rotary funded six generators to help Ukrainians charge essential devices
The International Aid Trust Ukraine Emergency Appeal began with the start of the war on 24th February 2022. Since then the charity has sent over 50 articulated lorries full of aid; including vital food, medical supplies, toiletries, clothing, bedding, generators, household equipment, bicycles and camping equipment with a total weight of over 550 tonnes and approx. value of £11 million to help people affected by the war in Ukraine.
The charity pass on their sincere thanks to Horwich Rotary Club members for their invaluable support, donating much needed generators and also finances which have funded transport of aid into Ukraine.
All the aid donated is getting through quickly, International Aid Trust work with a Ukrainian owned transport company whose drivers can deliver the loads sent straight to the charity’s distribution warehouse near Kyiv.
Rev. Rtn Bernard, CEO and Founder of International Aid Trust and Phil Walker, UK Operations Manager, visited Ukraine recently. They were able to spend time with and encourage the charity’s local staff and volunteer teams, led by Ukraine Director, Pastor Pasha Ozerugie, who has been with the charity for thirty years.
The Ukraine team are incredibly dedicated and serve tirelessly. They are working so hard to take the aid donated to areas of the country that have been very badly hit, they are frequently distributing aid in the Kherson region. Tatiana, who organises the aid distribution to locals and refugees in her village, is pictured with Bernard and Pastor Ruslan, she says “There are many migrants here, homes were destroyed and we gave them shelter. For nine months there was endless bombing. The help you are sending is very important, a lot of people are unemployed, businesses were bombed and destroyed and therefore there is no work.”
Sadly now the Kakhovka Dam has been destroyed and vast areas of the Kherson region have been flooded, the International Aid Trust team are continuing to deliver aid and share hope in Jesus with people in great need in this area.
Other areas that the donated aid sent is being delivered include: the Kharkiv region near the Russian border in the east, Odessa and Mykaliov regions in the south. The team are even getting to heavily contested areas such as Bakhmut and Soledar, here equipment such as camping stoves and power banks make such a difference for soldiers and civilians.
The churches that International Aid Trust work with, including their base at Motovilovka to the west of Kyiv are supporting lots of refugees from East Ukraine with pastoral care, meals and food parcels, clothing, shoes, bedding etc.
Specialist medical aid is also sent through to hospitals in a number of areas. Two fully functioning ambulances have been sourced in the UK, they will soon be on their way to Ukraine for the hospitals and emergency teams we work with, and will be a huge blessing to their work.
