Five students from Mossley Hollins have completed their Leadership Level 2 course.
Their project was to complete 100 gift bags for the Hidden Homeless. They chose this project because there is a need within our community and it is a focus area for our current President RTN Martin Daglesh.
The team researched the community's need and spoke to a local charity to find out what would make a difference to the people who are homeless and 'sofa surfing'. From this feedback they put together a gift bag containing basics such as toothpaste, toothbrush, shower gel etc, but also to include a special items such as a candle, warm socks, a woolly hat. Whilst most people would consider these basic items, the homeless/hidden homeless carry their belongings around in a small bag and have not had these things in some time, if at all.
The team have spoken to local businesses, applied for grants and presented at not only Dukinfield & Stalybridge's Dragons' Den event, they also presented at 'Mossley Soup' in front of over 100 people. Not bad for Year 10 students - they were amazing.
They are hoping to distribute the packs over then next few weeks, in partnership with Infinity Initiatives. We will post photos once we have them.
Well done to the students for their hardwork and commitment, but also the support from Mossley Hollins leadership team and the Rotarians from our club.
