MASSIVE CHARITY DONATIONS
The Rotary Club of Dunfermline has finished its Centenary Year by making over £40K donations to charities.
Supporting humanitarian causes overseas, very substantial sums were donated to the DEC Ukraine Appeal, Shelterbox, Rotary Foundation causes, and the complete refurbishment of a toilet block in Gakoigo Primary School in Kenya.
Closer to home, direct financial support has been given to numerous charities: Samaritans, Talk Matters, Salvation Army, Men’s Shed, Andy’s Man Club, Homestart, Shiresmill Riding Therapy Centre, CHAS, Cancer Research UK, British Lung Foundation, Waverley Care, RNLI, Fife Festival of Music, Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra, Sullivan’s Heroes, St Andrews Erskine Defibrillator, Peacocks in the Glen and the Dunfermline High School YPI Project.
In addition, working in partnership with the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust and The Purvis Group, the new cherry tree walk in Pittencrieff Park was fully funded.
The major fundraiser last year was the very successful Gin Festival at which the Rotarians received superb support from the local branch of Inner Wheel which is celebrating its 75th anniversary. As a gesture of goodwill, the Rotary Club offered £5K to Inner Wheel to distribute to their nominated local charities which included Salvation Army Fuel Cards, Seescapes (formerly the Blind Society), Dunfermline Sound, Square Start, Talk Matters, Homestart, Hedgehogs, Make 2nds Count, Real Life Options, Circle of Comfort, Rosyth Eats, Fairway Fife and to both the Dunfermline and Rosyth Foodbanks.
The outgoing Presidents of Rotary and Inner Wheel, Brian Blanchflower and Jennifer Grieve respectively, were “delighted to be able to disburse much-needed financial support to so many extremely worthy charitable causes” and also thanked their members and the local community for their support of fund-raising initiatives during their presidential years.
