Descriptions of how Rotary works

We are delighted that you have taken an interest in joining Rotary. Our Club first met in 1921 and since then it has been constantly evolving to find new ways for members to have fun helping communities locally, nationally and internationally as well as making great life- long friendships with like- minded people.

Prospective members are welcome to attend meetings so that you can find out more about how our club operates and to see if becoming a member is something that you want to do.

Some of the things that we have been doing recently

1.    Raising funds from a variety of activities and events including our Santa Dash, Santa Sleigh, Christmas Royal Marine Band Concerts, Quiz evenings, sponsored cycle ride, Golf Scramble and our highly successful Charity Gin Festival over 2 nights in May in the Glen Pavilion.

2.    Members undertaking driving duties for Dunfermline Foodbank, organising an Afternoon Tea with entertainment for the elderly and running our Kids Out day of activities for over 100 disadvantaged and disabled local children.

3.    Supporting Polio eradication through contributions to the Rotary Foundation which is Rotary's International Charity.

4.    Hosting a varied programme of speakers throughout the year at Garvock House Hotel on Thursday evenings at 7pm.

5.    Organising social events for members and guests including various lunches, nights out at different restaurants, our annual Summer Garden Party, visit to the Jack Vettriano exhibition, trip to beer festival in Edinburgh, not to mention a number of whisky, wine and gin tasting evenings.

6.    Donating substantial sums annually to local charities and national charities

7.    In conjunction with a Rotary club in Kenya, completing a water harvesting project.

8.    Running a Primary School Quiz, Technology Challenge and competitions for local Young Musicians, Photographers and Writers.

The power of Rotary Globally

Rotary is much bigger than just the Dunfermline Rotary Club. If you decide to join, then you will be joining part of a global organisation that makes a substantial difference to the world. There are over 33,000 rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.

Rotarians are

·       Community builders

·       Problem solvers

·       Opportunity creators

·       People of action

But above all, we make a difference both locally and internationally.

Our meetings

We meet regularly on Thursday evenings at 6.45 for 7pm at Garvock House Hotel, St John’s Drive, Dunfermline. A typical meeting involves a one course meal with coffee followed by reports on Club activities and events. We often have a speaker but sometimes the meeting is just taken up with conversation between members.
