The Club had the privilege of meeting with six of the nine Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholars currently studying in District 1040. Three came from Japan, one from Mongolia, one from Australia and one from U.S.A. four are studying at Leeds University and two at the University of York We learnt from Zandan Bilegt, studying an MBA at Leeds, something of Mongolia, the 19th largest country in the world that is also the most scarcely populated, and of her education and work prior to her studies in England. Hector Vivero from U.S.A. studying at York told of his current project examining the housing difficulties that refugees from Iraq are experiencing in Jordan. The findings have been made available to the Jordanian government. Takahiro Ota from Osaka studying at Leeds gave a humorous description of the food Miso much enjoyed in Japan. Patrick Fleming, a policeman from Australia, studying Law at Leeds, told of his experiences in Child Protection. Ryota Nakamura from Ina in Japan, famous for its Cherry Blossom is studying Health Economics at York especially concerned with the economic implications of Obesity. This Rotary Scholarship scheme is a further example of Rotary’s commitment to improving universal understanding and through education and exchange of ideas and cultures enhancing the lives of individuals and ultimately the citizens of the countries from which the scholars came.
