Speaker Jon Horsman- Yorkshire Rose Ambulance

Mon, Jul 30th 2007 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

John Horsman from the Yorkshire Rose Independent Ambulance Service was the guest Speaker at this week’s meeting.  He described his training, background and qualifications. Equestrian events, motor sports meetings or any outdoor activities involving large numbers of competitors and spectators are supported by the independent ambulances and their well-qualified staff   trained to use spinal and traction splints and pain management.  Members were shown a number of different automated external Heart defibrillators. A donation from the Club at the time of the Wensleydale Wander had assisted in the purchase of stretcher equipment. Anecdotes of incidents in which the ambulances have been involved and the differences between the constraints under which the N.H.S. ambulances work provoked much discussion.  He was presented with a cheque in appreciation of his services on Sunday’s James Herriot Trail Run.

The Trail Run had 220 pre-event entries with a further 100 entering on the day. There were 103 female runners and 217 males. York Acorn Running Club won the Team event. Thanks were expressed to the Skipton Rotaract club and the local Scouts for their support.
