Speaker Michael Blanch- Job Talk, at Sam's

Mon, Apr 23rd 2007 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

A superb visual presentation with accompanying commentary was the lot of the Wensleydale Rotarians on Monday evening. Who better than the ex Chief Executive of the governing body of the Falkland Islands could have enthralled the Club with a description of life in the archipelago.

Michael Blanch the Club's most recent member spent the period 2000-2003 responsible for the civil life of Falkland(Population 2380) An interesting aspect was the a previous exodus of young people had now reversed and youth was now returning (with European qualifications) to a very vibrant community with strong investment and opportunity. Vivid scenes were shown of the landscapes, travel, fishing and farming - the Islands carry some 700,00 sheep of Australia breed in the main farmed for their quality wool.

Michael Weatherald proposed the vote of thanks suggesting that Michael Blanch had retired from the Falklands to the UK , looking for the nearest terrain to the Falklands he had settled for Fossdale - Pennine Way country north of Hardrow The President read a message of goodwill from the Club's associate Club in New South Wales, Australia
