Mon, Jan 29th 2007 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

Michael Smith of the Rotary Club of Driffield, who is a Senior Driving Examiner gave a talk on 'Safe Driving for Life'. He works for the Driving Standards Agency. Their aim is to achieve 40% reduction in riders and drivers killed or seriously injured in road accidents in the age group up to 24 years by 2010 compared with the average for 1994-'98. He discussed the changes in Driving Tests since 1935 and the introduction of Theory tests and Hazard Perception Tests in addition to Practical Tests. His theme of Arrive Alive produced much discussion among the members recounting changes in road conditions, power of cars, attitudes towards other road users and motorway driving which is not currently papt of the Driving Test. The vote of thanks was proposed by David Milner.
