A newly inducted member to the Club, Chris Johnson, enthralled members by his "My Job" talk. He told of his early life, his passionate involvement with horses, and his aspiration one day to ride in the Grand National. Any games, on the sports field, or as part of rowing crews, were tackled with the enthusiasm that are essential if anyone's dream will come to fruition. Bob Hughes, newly returned from the Friends of Govi expedition to The Gambia, described some of the highs and lows of the trip. When the full party returns there will be a presentation on 29th. March.
On 27th. February at the Tesco store in Richmond and Co-op stores in Richmond and Leyburn there will be displays and collections to support the Rotary International PolioPlus campaign, which is a mass immunisation scheme aimed to eradicate polio worldwide. Rotary has raised over $1 billion towards this end and Bill Gates has pledged $350 million for the project. While the number of polio cases worldwide has declined by over 90% it is hoped this year will see the end of this crippling disease, which is the reason behind the Rotary Clubs in Wensleydale and Richmond raising money for PolioPlus.
