Sun, Jul 25th 2010 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

A 14K run over moorland tracks and paths near Castle Bolton in Wensleydale in aid of Rotary charities.

The 2009 winning lady, Charlotte Sanderson at the finishing line

The StartOur patron Mr James Wight was unable to attend this year, so Club President David Pointon started the race that was hotly contested for individual  prizes provided by the sponsors La Sportiva, The Walking Shop of Leyburn, Brymor Ice Cream, and Dales View Holiday Homes, with club team shields provided by York Acorn for the team of the first two men and one lady, the Swaledale Club Shield for the team of the first four ladies, and the Rotary Club Shield for the team of the first four men.

There was a very strong contingent of runners from London Frontrunners who had come up to Yorkshire Shaun & Garyfor the weekend. One of them, Shaun Whelan, won the race last year, beating previous winner Gary Dunn. However, Gary reversed the situation this year, beating Shaun by 8 seconds in 53.45 minutes. Mark Forrest, also of London Frontrunners, was third, with regular attender, Lewis Banton of Chesterfield Clowne Runners 4th.

The winning Lady was Mairead Rocke of Corby AC in 62.4, withWinning Lady Mairead Rocke Carol Morgan of Burley in Wharfedale (NVRR) second, while Erika Johnson of Swaledale Road Runners was 3rd for the third year in succession!

The only glitch in the day occurred when computing the category and team winners. We apologise for that and promise that lessons will be learned for next year!
