THE END OF A VERY GOOD YEAR!!

With the end of the Rotary Year at the end of June, Wakefield Chantry, like all other Rotary Clubs sees the handover of the Presidency for the forthcoming 2016/17 year. 

At Chantry, Bob Guard, the outgoing President hands over the Chain of Office to his successor, Chris Sharp at a ceremony in the St Pierre Hotel, in Newmillerdam. 

In a summary of his year, Bob said that the year had been the one of the most successful on record with a total of £28,000 being raised for Charity and Good Causes, both local, national and international. The majority of the money being used for local charities to benefit the people of Wakefield and its environs. “We are especially proud of the help we have been able to give to The Community Awareness Programme (CAP) in Wakefield. This is a charity helping disadvantaged people and families. Other charities of note that have been helped during the year are Kingsland School, looking after severely mentally and physically handicapped children and the Admiral Nurses appeal to provide sorely needed specialist Dementia Nurses in our area. Our International projects are all centred around children and schools across Africa and Asia.” 

The year drew to a close at a special Presidents Night Dinner at the Park Restaurant, Walton, which provided its usual superb quality food, and entertainment by Judith Hibbert, a well-known TV actress and entertainer who provided both music and great impersonations of Gracie Fields, Julie Walters, Joyce Grenfell and Julie Andrews. 75 Rotarians and their friends enjoyed a superb night to round off the Year for Bob.

On handing over to Chris Sharp, Chris said “I am really looking forward to the year ahead, together with my deputy for the year Dick Wood. We have a hard act to follow but will do our utmost to keep up the good work that this club does for the community.”
