The 2025 Settle Saunter

Sunday 8th June 2025


The Saunter is an annual walking / running event along footpaths and bridleways taking entrants into some of the quieter and lesser known parts of the Yorkshire Dales. It passes through some picturesque rural villages and hamlets, and over some of the lower fells around the small market town of Settle. It is organised by The Rotary Club of Settle with help from members of  the local community.

Routes

There are three routes on offer, accommodating a wide range of abilities and all can be run or walked. Dogs are welcome provided they are kept on a lead.
10k / 6.2 miles
A half marathon (21k / 13 miles)
And 37k / 23 miles

The 23 and 13 ml routes visit the picturesque locations of Feizor, Austwick and Clapham, Oxenber Woods SSSI and Stainforth Force with the 23ml route returning via Victoria cave , Attermire Scar and Cleatop Nature reserve .
The 6.5ml (10k) route visits Giggleswick village before ascending Giggleswick Scar and returning via Langcliffe village.

13ml and 23 mile routes £28
On the day entries are only allowed on the 10k route.

The routes are flagged with tape and all routes are very runnable,
 Sportident chip timings will be used.
A comprehensive route description is available to all entrants and GPS files can be downloaded on request.
We welcome all-comers in the expectation that they have a reasonable level of fitness to complete their chosen route. Under 18s are most welcome for the 2 shorter routes but we do have some safeguarding rules for them.
These are :
The 23 mile route is restricted to ages 18+ 16-17 year olds if unaccompanied must provide a parental/guardian consent form. Please download, print and complete the form and bring it with you to the event. Juniors aged 15 or younger must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. For parents that have entered the 10K route any of their children between the ages of 5 and 11 are Free of Charge, but they must be accompanied by their parents at all times.

Registration, start & finish on the day is at the Victoria Hall, Kirkgate, Settle, BD24 9DZ [GR 818 637].  Maps OL2/OL41
We will be using staggered starts to avoid overcrowding at the event centre.
23 mile walkers will register between 8.00 and 8.30, 23 mile runners between 8.30 and 9.00
13 mile walkers 9.0 to 9.30, 13 mile runners 9.30 to 10.00
10k entrants  10.00 am

Entrants will need to book registration time slots from a drop down menu which will be available a few weeks before the event.
This year we can't provide food as part of the entrance fee but the cafe in the Victoria Hall Garden will be open all day , serving drinks, sandwiches and cakes


This year we may have a limit on numbers, but entry on the day is  possible for the 10km route.

This event is organised by the Rotary Club of Settle. Each year the event raises money for charities with past events providing funds for Cancer Research, the Clapham Cave and Fell Rescue, the Alzheimers society and funds to help rebuild a primary school following the devastating earthquake in Nepal
