Guest Speaker:
Ken McGavin
Bruce introduced Ken who had selected a variety of his photos taken over many years to bring along and talk about.
The scenery in Glen Lyon was a particular area he had enjoyed, as was Newburgh harbour, with some of its older fishing boats.
He felt working sometimes in black & white, people looked more at the content, where colour often dominates the photo.
With photos, rules are for breaking, take what you enjoy seeing.
Ken more often uses brown card for mounting his photos, as he feels that black tends to deaden the print.
In judging our competition "A Portrait" He used 3 criterion.
1) Appreciation of subject.
2) Technical input skills.
3) Pleasure in approaching it.
He announced joint winners of Bruce Rollo & Graham Pirie. Bruce had entered a photo he had taken of a cheetah in the wild. Graham had taken a photo of his granddaughter.
Ken's Tip of the Month.
Look at the beauty that is about you. Let your eye wonder at it, and if the technology of the camera can help you share it, so much the better.
Ken McLaren thanked Ken for his excellent display and talk on his world of photography and for the considerable work he had put in by doing individual written remarks and comments on the member's competition entries.
A workshop has been arranged to be held at Dunshalt for I Copland, K McLaren & G McLeish.
Next meeting is on 16th of February and is to be at Westfield Villa. The competition has a Valentine theme and is titled "A Romantic Moment".
Graham closed the meeting with a Vote of Thanks to Bruce & Leslie.
