Stephen Joseph Theatre has staged many outstanding productions over its long life in Scarborough, but “Blonde Bombshells” must rank as one of the best ever. Based on a true story it was brilliantly written by one of the country’s best known playwrights, Alan Plater, it told the story of a group of talented women musicians from a wide range of backgrounds who come together during the second world war and form a band which performed on radio and dance halls.
It was a joy to see such a strong, well-crafted and humorous script performed by a cast cast with such a wealth of talent in playing a wide range of instruments, who proved as brilliant as actors and singers as they did musicians.
This is a production which must not be missed and surely it must be a strong candidate for the West End stage.
Our thanks go to Mike Wilkinson for having the foresight to make the bookings for Cavaliers – it was a real highlight which rightly earned a standing ovation from the enthusiastic audience. (August 9 2023)
