SATURDAY 22 APRIL 10.30-15.00

Hosts, guests and Cavaliers make their way to Scampston Hall, Malton.

This splendid Manor House was originally constructed in 1700, and remodelled in the Regency style in 1795. It is the home of the Legard Family and the current custodians have spent a considerable time and effort restoring its Regency splendour. The gardens of the Estate were originally laid out by Capability Brown in 1892, and the 18^th century award winning walled garden was redesigned by Dutchman Piet Oudolf in 1999.

Our visit will include coffee on arrival in the Conservatory, a private tour of the House and gardens in the company of Scampston experts; a light lunch in the Conservatory, and continued exploration of the grounds at leisure. Return to Scarborough mid afternoon.

SATURDAY 22 APRIL 18.30-23.00

The Main Event, at the Downe Arms, Wykeham. An evening of good food, excellent fellowship and unforgettable entertainment provided by well intentioned volunteers, and the occasional professional. Black tie and elegant attire please.

SUNDAY 23 APRIL 10.30-12.00

Hosts, Guests and Cavaliers will make their way to the Stained Glass Centre, Killerby, for a famous Yorkshire Brunch, after which our guests will make their way home.( or play a game of Footgolf if they prefer..)

 Cavaliers celebrate their 45^th birthday in style

 The club began their 45^th Charter weekend with a welcome reception at the Nags Head pub in Scalby for their Dutch guests from Aalten Wisch. The evening carried on with drinks and a buffet meal at the Grunwell’s house in the village finishing with a sing-a-long with all enthusiastically taking part.

Saturday, April 22 saw the group rendezvous at Scampston Hall for a guided tour of the hall and walled garden. The hall was originally built in the early 17^th century but was remodelled between 1795 1nd 1803 by architect Thomas Leverton. It was designed to sit harmoniously within a Capability Brown landscape.

The group were shown around the hall, which is very much a family home, by Ann an extremely knowledgeable and entertaining guide who described the paintings, ceramics and furniture within the context of the family’s history. Head Gardener, Corner Rule was equally interesting in explaining the walled gardens concept by Piet Oudolf and the plans to maintain the gardens tradition.

The evening’s Gala Dinner was clearly the highlight of the weekend with special guests Ventia Wrigley, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire and Scarborough’s new Charter Mayor Councillor John Richie both addressing the guests, along with club President George Roberts and Eva Ebbing, Aalten Wisch President.

However, both clubs put on a fantastic night of entertainment with the Dutch club singing a rendition of Abba’s “Waterloo” replaced with the word “Rotary” and the Cavaliers covering Instant Sunshine’s “A Little Bit of Burgling on the Side” and two Beatles songs, including ‘Hey Jude” as part of their cabaret contribution.

The weekend ended on Sunday lunchtime with a Yorkshire Brunch at the Stained Glass Centre in Killerby and a visit to the workshop by owner Val Green. The Aalten Wisch guests departed for the ferry terminal in Hull for their trip back to the Netherlands via Flamborough Head with a small gift from the stained glass centre.
