10th April 2024
Karen and Jackie joined other Rotarians to hear from a few of our current Rotary Scholars. Hosted by Richard who leads the district's scholars support team, and with catering from members of Abingdon Rotary, we all had a lovely evening chatting with friends and hearing from six of the current cohort of Rotary Scholars.
We heard about a great range of topics: from changes in policing to a more civilian-friendly approach; using art to make sense of the world around us and helping us to deal with environmental anxiety; the effect of extreme weather events on those living in poverty; the quirks of the English language; and looking for justice after genocide.
There's always lots of energy at these types of events, lots to chat about and lots of connections to make as we discover shared interests and areas of expertise.
Bertha is our current Rotary Scholar, studying at Reading University and funded by our Rotary district. So she is following in the footsteps of Jackie who studied at Reading with the same scholarship two years ago. Jackie has stayed in the UK and while Bertha plans to return to Malawi after graduating, we hope that she will join our Rotary club.
