New Rotary Year Begins
As we welcome in the new Rotary year on July 1st, we also welcome our incoming president Annmarie. A heartfelt thank you to Philomena for her dedicated service as president since co-founding the club in 2022. Philomena is transferring into RGBI Direct Membership and the Southern Wales Hub, where she will become Membership Lead for D1150, Rotary in Southern Wales, helping clubs grow Rotary and support members in recruitment and retention.
Sunflower Competition Blooms The school sunflower competition is nearing its exciting finale! The sunflowers are towering high, and prizes will be awarded in the coming weeks before the summer break on July 18th.
Kitchen Garden Project Success Phase three of the Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron ALN Unit kitchen garden project on June 27th was a fantastic success. Gravel paths have been laid and borders planted with pollinator-friendly plants. Huge thanks to the staff, including Headteacher Mr Jones, Alison, our Rotary volunteer, students and volunteers for making this happen.
Garden Ready for New Term The garden is now ready for when the students return after the summer break to begin growing their horticultural skills as well as their ingredients for cooking.
Bee 'n' Bee Extended Our bug hotel has had an upgrade! Thanks to Trystan, the 'bee 'n' bee' now includes a new hedgehog house, giving even more wildlife a safe place to thrive.
Memorial Garden Grows Fragrant roses have been planted to honour students remembered in the original memorial garden. One talented student used his dry-stone skills, and stones unearthed throughout the project, to create a beautiful edging, adding a personal touch to the border.
Car Wash Fundraiser The students of Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron will be holding a car wash fundraiser for the kitchen garden project on July 11th at the school. Outside wash £5, inside and out clean £10. What a bargain! COME ALONG AND GIVE THEM YOUR SUPPORT.
Help Wanted: Pizza Oven Builder We need help building a small clay pizza oven to complete the kitchen garden. Outdoor cooking is a key part of the students' life skills programme. If you can help, or know someone who can, we'd love to hear from you!
Thanks to Our Supporters Thanks to the generosity of donors, local businesses, fundraising efforts, school funding, and the District 1150 Environment and Environment-linked Membership grants, the kitchen garden project has been completed within budget.
Thank You! A huge thank you to everyone who has supported Rotary in Cardigan Bay. Every donation, word of encouragement and helping hand means so much. If you'd like to join us, there is always something for everyone – and if not, we'll create it together!
#Rotary in Cardigan Bay Team.
