Rotary in Cardigan Bay: Waves of Change

Welcome to our latest newsletter from Rotary in Cardigan Bay! As autumn settles in, we're buzzing with activity and community spirit. From supporting young readers to cleaning our beautiful beaches, our members have been hard at work making a difference. This issue highlights our recent accomplishments, ongoing projects, and exciting plans for the future. Whether you're a long-time member or curious about getting involved, dive in to see how we're turning the tide for good in West Wales. Together, we're proving that small actions can create big ripples of positive change!

Back to School Reading Support:

We're excited to resume our English reading skills support for children at Ysgol Gynradd Aberaeron. Our volunteers are ready to make a difference in young learners' lives as the new academic year begins.

Llangrannog Gardening Update

After a busy summer and wet September, we're gearing up for our next gardening session on October 6th. We'll join forces with the village 'Welfare group' for a combined village tidy-up and beach clean. All hands on deck for this community effort!

Great British Beach Clean 2024

RiCB members and volunteers participated in the Marine Conservation Society's annual autumn data collection. We tackled 4 local beaches, revealing the often-overlooked smaller plastics that threaten our oceans.

Supporting Local Food Banks

We've been active in supporting both Aberaeron and Cardigan food banks. From weeding at Peniel Chapel to exploring new ways to help, we're committed to addressing food insecurity in our community.

Rotary’s End Polio Now Campaign

We're anticipating the arrival of 1000 crocus corms to plant around the neighbourhood, including schools, raising awareness for this crucial campaign to eradicate polio. With cases rising in Gaza and Afghanistan, a 20p donation can vaccinate a child. #endpolionow

Collaborative Efforts

We welcomed visitors from Aberaeron a'r Cylch Rotary Club to our September meeting to discuss supporting Michael's inspiring 100km MENCAP fundraiser. This collaboration showcases the power of Rotary partnerships.

Michael's 100km Challenge

We're rallying behind Michael, a 29-year-old with Downs Syndrome, visual impairment and mild cerebral palsy, as he aims to walk/run 100km around Wales in a week. His goal is to raise £10,000 for MENCAP, defying earlier medical predictions. He will be walking 5km around Aberaeron (10.00 - 12.00) before moving on to Aberystwyth on Wednesday 9th October. Keep a look out and cheer him on.

Cardigan Winter Fair Preparations

Mark your calendars for Saturday November 9th! We're planning our annual fundraising stall at the Cardigan Winter Fair. Volunteers needed for setup (8.00am) and takedown (6.00pm) of our Rotary Gazebo. Contact us to lend a hand!

Remembering Rtn Ernie Gunner

A touching tribute to Rotarian Ernie Gunner and his wife Barbara has been installed in the newly created garden at the Memorial Hall in New Quay. This memorial honors Ernie's remarkable 47 years of service in Rotary, as well as his active involvement in the RNLI and Bowls club since moving to New Quay over two decades ago. We're proud to celebrate the lasting impact of dedicated Rotarians like Ernie on our community.
