ROTARY CONVERSATION BUDDIES

Volunteer Opportunity:   ROTARIANS and FRIENDS of ROTARY

Can you help Teenagers with English as their second language  improve  their English?

In 2022 the Rotary Orpington District E Club  was asked by Bromley Council to co-ordinate  a project to help children   at Bishop Justus COE School. to improve their English and hence improve their access to the School Curriculum.

We are now moving into our third academic year of the project and the school would like to grow the programme to include more children as it has been successful in making a difference in confidence and delivery of speaking, writing and reading skills  in English. or students who have taken part. We meet the teenagers  in groups of 2/3  in their school library for 1 hour per week after school  3.30-4.30 for approximately  10 weeks each term and expect the day to continue to be a Thursday. We can be flexible  around  your holidays or the occasional personal  commitment.

We need 3 more volunteers to grow the programme

Helpful for volunteering, but not necessary  are any of the following

  • Previously worked with children?
  • Parent, Grandparent or been in Child Carer?
  • Youth Club experience?
  • Ex-Teacher or Teaching Assistant?
  • Refugee / guest family Host?
  • school will pay for and organise an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS)

If you  are interested in being part of this exciting and rewarding project please send your details and any relevant background information to Brenda via email: brenda.e.parsons@ntlworld.com Thank you  Brenda

THIS PROJECT WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING FOR A GROUP OF CHILDREN WHO MAY BE FEELING ISOLATED AND UNHAPPY AS THEY CANNOT EASILY COMMUNICATE WITH OTHER CHILDREN OR ACCESS  FULLY THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM                     YOUR HELP CAN CHANGE THIS

Has your Rotary Club or Organisation,  joined BELRAG  the  International Rotary Action Group for Basic Education and Literacy ? I this opportunity is also open to    all those interested or with expertise in in Basic Education and Literacy? https://belrag.org
