In February 20223, devastating earthquakes struck southern Turkey and north-west Syria killing over 50,000 and injuring many more. Rotarian Ray Seager visited the region thanks to a meeting with a lady called Maya. To read more

Our District has recently paid for 2 x 40-ton lorries to take much needed aid to Turkey, you may or may not have noticed the the devastation in Turkey is no longer in the headlines.  After our first shipment from Herne Bay, initiated by Maya’s Community Support Group CIC.  To ensure the aid went to it’s intended recipients we decided to fly to Hatay/Antakya to help unload the lorry. To say our experience was heartbreaking is an understatement. Imagine an area larger than the size of Kent being flattened.

 D1120 sent a shipment of much needed toilet facilities in Turkey, The funds to send the lorry  came from generous donations from several clubs. 

We currently have another 22 toilets in storage which the transport company is paying to store. 

Rotary and those in Hatay and Antakya and other devastated areas will never be able to thank you enough for the support given so far. 

So here’s the rub! To ship the toilets currently in storage will need a small donation of £60 per club. We know some will think “here we go again” or “ please stop begging” so all thats asked is this small donation until the task of putting a task force together similar to the one for Ukraine (volunteers gratefully accepted) is complete
