Press Release from Ythan Valley Rotary on behalf of Cycling UK
Ythan Valley Rotary in conjunction with Cycling UK have secured a grant in excess of £35,000 for the supply and distribution of 17 bicycles, E- Bikes and Adult Tricycles for needy recipients through-out the North East of Scotland with a geographic spread ranging from Macduff to St Cyrus.
This has been a co-ordinated effort between Ythan Valley Rotary, Ellon Cycles and Cycling UK. The grant was made available to any adult on specified benefits who was referred by local services.
The provision of the bicycles via this very substantial grant by Cycling UK is designed to enhance the lifestyle and opportunities available to those who receive them - the bikes are being distributed to the recipients in the North East from October through to year end.
Ythan Valley Rotary were delighted to have been working closely with Ellon Cycles who responded willingly to our frequent requests and provided an excellent service to Rotary in bringing this project to a successful conclusion.
A spokesperson for Ythan Valley Rotary said: “this has been a tremendous opportunity for our Rotary working alongside Cycling UK and Ellon Cycles to enhance the quality of life to members of our community who would not previously have been given this chance”.
A spokesperson for Cycling UK said “We are delighted to support Ythan Valley Rotary with an Access Bikes grant which will help 17 people in the local area to get a bike and start cycling for transport, leisure and health. The cost-of-living crisis has hit people on low incomes hardest and we know that people are looking to cycling as an affordable transport option. Access Bikes works with community organisations like Ythan Valley Rotary to provide people with a bike and the equipment that they need to start cycling to get around.
Not only does cycling provide a virtually free way to get about, it’s also great for people’s mental and physical health and positive for the environment. We hope that all the participants will feel the benefits for many years to come.
